Backbackbackgone scores off five-month layoff

ARCADIA, Calif. - Backbackbackgone is as good in the autumn as he was in the spring.

Making his first start in nearly five months, Backbackbackgone held off a late rally from Charlie’s Moment to win Saturday’s $80,100 Jack Goodman Stakes at Santa Anita. Backbackbackgone ($6) ran six furlongs in 1:08.85.

Backbackbackgone set the pace, running the opening quarter-mile in 22.61 seconds, before yielding the lead to Details R Sketchy on the turn. Backbackbackgone was second on the turn, and retook the lead in early stretch and won by a nose over Charlie’s Moment, the winner of the Gateway to Glory Stakes at Fairplex Park last month.

Arashi Cat finished third in the field of six 2-year-olds.

The Goodman Stakes was jockey Rafael Bejarano’s fourth winner on the 10-race card.

Backbackbackgone is unbeaten in three starts. He beat maidens at Bay Meadows and won the Willard Proctor Stakes in May before being sidelined by sore shins, trainer Peter Miller said. Owned by Gerson Racing and Charleville Stables, Backbackbackgone has earned $112,440.
