Bach's Homebrew clearly best this time

LINCOLN, Neb. - Bach's Homebrew racked up his third straight stakes victory in impressive fashion with a smashing 12-length score over seven rivals in the $19,075 Lincoln Derby on Saturday at Lincoln Race Course.

Unhurried in the opening half-mile, Bach's Homebrew and rider Armando Martinez made a quick move to challenge his entry-mate Bingosalumin into the far turn of the one-mile race. The same situation occured in their last meeting when Bach's Homebrew and Bingosablumin dueled through the final quarter-mile of the Breeders' Special with Bach's Homebrew earning a three-quarter-length win. But this time Bach's Homebrew breezed on by to open up by six lengths nearing the stretch, then drew off under mild hand urging.

Catty Buddha rallied from far back to gain second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Bingosablumin, who held third.

Trained by Larry Staroscik, the entry of Bach's Homebrew and Bingosablumin returned $2.60 as the heavy favorite. Bach's Homebrew covered the mile in 1:39.80 over a fast track.

The win moved his career mark to 5-1-1 from 7 starts with earnings of just under $52,000. Both Bach's Homebrew and Bingosablumin were bred and are owned by Donald Everett's Bluestem Farm.
