Autograph session benefits cancer research

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A trainer autograph-signing session will be held here Sunday to benefit the Lustgarten Foundation in memory of the late Dominic Galluscio, who died earlier this year from pancreatic cancer. Most of the local trainer colony will be on hand to sign autographs at the Jockey Silks Porch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The Lustgarten Foundation raises funds for pancreatic cancer research.

The fundraiser was organized by trainer Gary Gullo, a close friend of Gallucscio’s, who said he was overwhelmed by the response he received from his colleagues when soliciting their help to support such a worthy cause.

“Purple is the color used to symbolize the war against pancreatic cancer, and we’re trying to encourage people to come out and wear purple in memory of Dominic, who always loved to wear his purple sports jacket to the races,” said Gullo. “Dominic was a great guy and loved by just about everybody associated with racing in New York, and I can’t say enough about how supportive the entire trainer colony has been when I approached them to give a little of their time on Sunday.”

Purple wristbands will be available for purchase for a donation of $5 apiece. Gullo said Galluscio’s family will be on hand to take part in winner’s circle ceremonies following a race to be named in his honor on Sunday’s program.
