Author of book on Earl Sande to appear at Turf Paradise

Richard Maturi will be at Turf Paradise Feb. 18-20 to sign copies of his book "Triple Crown Winner: The Earl Sande Saga." Maturi has spent the past few years traveling to numerous racetracks in the U.S. and Canada to tell the story about Sande.

Sande, who worked under Arizonian Doc Pardee near the turn of the 20th century, was one of the most accomplished riders in the game. He was part of the very first class of honorees inducted into Racing's Hall of Fame. He piloted Gallant Fox, the second Triple Crown winner, won three Kentucky Derbys, one Preakness, five Belmonts. He rode Zev to his win over Papryus in the famed 1923 International Match Race, and also rode the likes of Chance Play, Grey Lag, Mad Play, and Sir Barton. He also rode the legendary Man o' War on one occasion.
