Authenicat grabs easy victory

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Authenicat asserted her superiority over her Ontario-sired 3-year-old filly peers here Wednesday evening, cruising to a geared-down 3 1/4-length victory in the $125,000 Eternal Search Stakes.

Regular rider Robert Landry had brought Authenicat from off the pace to score a 5 1/2-length victory in the restricted seven-furlong Passing Mood here July 23, and followed a similar blueprint in the 1 1/16-mile Eternal Search for the same set.

Settling nicely through the first 5 1/2 furlongs, Authenicat moved strongly to the lead around the final turn and left her four rivals reeling.

Nicki Knew, who had rallied to leave Authenicat in second place in the 1 1/16-mile Bison City here June 29, was no match this time around after dueling for the lead with Krz Exec, but was clearly second best.

Lady d'Wildcat, the longest shot in the field at 16-1, closed for third, two lengths behind Nicki Knew, with Critical Path and a faltering Krz Exec rounding out the order of finish.

Authenicat, owned by Vinery Stable and Fog City Stable and trained by Josie Carroll, picked up $75,000 for her Eternal Search score and now has banked $490,277 with a record of 5-4-1 from 12 starts.

The final time for the Eternal Search was 1:45.12. Authenicat, who returned $3.90 as the favorite, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 81.
