Auction to benefit Arizona program

A benefit for the Joseph F. Joyce Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund of the University of Arizona's the Race Track Industry Program will be held Saturday evening at the Uinta County Courthouse Complex in Evanston, Wyo.

The benefit is in conjunction with Saturday's inaugural running of the Joe Joyce Derby at Wyoming Downs, which Joyce owned and operated from 1989 to 1998. Joyce helped start the racing industry educational program 35 years ago.

Scheduled to attend the event is Jack Van Berg, a Hall of Fame trainer who will act as auctioneer for the evening.

There will be a live and silent auction starting at 7:30 p.m. that is open to the public. Auction items include a photo of Big Brown winning this year's Kentucky Derby, autographed by jockey Kent Desormeaux. Other items have been donated by Hall of Fame jockeys Chris McCarron and Julie Krone.

A dinner begins at 6:30 p.m with a requested donation of $35. More information is available from Eugene Joyce at 602-803-0128.
