The Thoroughbred portion of the Ruidoso Downs New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse sale posted declines in gross on August 20, but saw an increase in average price with the help of a $100,000 Attila’s Storm colt that topped the sale.

The yearling-exclusive session saw 74 yearlings sell for total receipts of $677,800, down 11 percent from last year’s Thoroughbred session which featured both yearling and mixed offerings and reported 93 horses selling for a total of $759,000.

The average sale price in 2016 rose 12 percent from $8,161 to $9,159, while the median remained unchanged at $3,500.

Ruis Racing purchased the sale topper, an Attila’s Storm colt out of the multiple stakes-placed Dome mare Hang Glide.

The bay colt, named Hermano, is a sibling to four winners from as many starters out of Hang Glide, all by Attila’s Storm, including multiple stakes winners Thermal and Reaper, and stakes-placed runners Glide Path and Another Brother. He is from the family of Australian Group 1 winner Maldivian, Group 2 winner Adrift, Grade 3 winners Creston and Compelling Sound, Grade 1-placed stakes winner Shywing, and stakes winner Sky Diver.

Hermano was bred in New Mexico and consigned by R.D. Hubbard’s Crystal Springs Farm.
