LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Astrology heads a prospective field of eight or nine colts and geldings for the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, while Aide and Kathmanblu lead the likely cast for the sister race, the Golden Rod Stakes. Both are Grade 2, $150,000 races that will be run at 1 1/16 miles Saturday.

Astrology, winner of the Iroquois Stakes here opening day, Oct. 31, will be favored in a field that also likely will include Cane Garden Bay, Major Gain, Rogue Romance, and Trubs. Other contenders for the Golden Rod include Gran Lioness and Missyoulikecrazy.

Twelve races will be run on the Saturday card, the second Stars of Tomorrow program solely for 2-year-olds at the meet, while 11 will be carded for Sunday. Entries for Saturday were to be drawn Wednesday.

◗ More than 500 needy families were expected to be the recipients of frozen turkeys and food boxes given away Tuesday at the track by Churchill employees and volunteers from a local food bank, The Lord’s Kitchen. This was the fourth straight year for the giveaway.

◗ Nominations close Thursday for the $50,000 Holiday Inaugural, to be run Dec. 4 as the first of four stakes at the Turfway Park holiday meet. Churchill closes Sunday, with Turfway picking up live action on the Kentucky circuit on Dec. 2.
