Assiniboia: Rematch in Halter

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Timely Ruckus and Robnroy, the one-two finishers in last year's G. Sydney Halter Stakes, return to Assiniboia Downs on Sunday for the 2002 running of the $30,000 Halter at 5 1/2 furlongs.

Trained by Ernie Keller at Stampede Park, Timely Ruckus will be making his fourth start of the year. A 9-year-old son of Bold Executive, Timely Ruckus won an allowance race in his seasonal bow and finished second in the Stampede Park Sprint Championship in his most recent try, May 4.

Jacques DesAutels will be aboard Timely Ruckus, who breaks from post 2.

Robnroy finished fifth in the Stampede Park Sprint Championship in his only start this year.

Consistently near the pace early in his career, Robnroy has been taken off the pace in his last four starts. If he adopts those tactics here, then Timely Ruckus and Corporate Shuffle could be left battling for the early lead.

Juan Crawford will ride Robnroy for trainer Pam McDougall, breaking from post 6.

Kalfaari represents the best hope of the local contingent.

Owned and trained by Clint Willson, Kalfaari looked very impressive in his only 2002 start, winning an allowance race here by 3 1/4 lengths May 11.

The co-highweight with Timely Ruckus at 124 pounds, Kalfaari will break from post 5 under Rohan Singh.

Smoky Cinder finished fifth behind Kalfaari in his seasonal debut. Trained by Gary Danelson, Smoky Cinder will start from post 7 with Tim Gardiner aboard.

Corporate Shuffle, scratched from a May 11 allowance race, makes his first start of the year and will break from post 4 under Manuel Alicea. The G. Sydney Halter also will be his first race against older horses and his first for trainer Clayton Gray.

Coupled with Corporate Shuffle is Ness Gadoll, a 3-year-old who has drawn the rail for his first appearance this season.

Rounding out the field is Breaker Breaker, trained by Blair Miller, who has not raced since October 2000. Anderson Ward will ride.
