Assiniboia: Golden Stripe almost duplicates her 2010 Distaff victory

Golden Stripe couldn’t quite duplicate her 2010 effort in the Distaff, when she won the one-mile stakes for Manitoba-bred fillies and mares by 18 1/4 lengths.

On Friday night, at Assiniboia Downs, Golden Stripe had to settle for a 15 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Distaff as she led all the way under jockey David Lopez.

Golden Stripe, a 5-year-old who races for his breeder, K-5 Stable, and trainer Shelley Brown, picked up $30,600 to bring her career earnings close to the $200,000 mark.

Kommando Kate finished second, one length before third-place Fahspa in the field of eight.

Earlier on the program, Danger Rules was a front-running winner of the $40,000 CTHS Sales for 2-year-olds.

Danger Rules scored by a length under Rocco Bowen as the 3-4 choice and had to survive a claim of foul by third-place finisher Jon’s Golden Run.

She’s Regal was the runner-up  the field of 10.
