Assiniboia Downs: She’s Copacetic targets first stakes win in Chantilly
By Bill Tallon
Email
She’s Copacetic, claimed for $32,000 at Tampa Bay Downs this April, has run well in two starts at Assiniboia Downs and has a shot at becoming a stakes winner in Friday’s $30,000 Chantilly.
The Chantilly, a six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies, attracted a field of seven that also includes the speedy Northlands shipper My Daddy’s Girl.
She’s Copacetic was coming off a second-place finish at the $30,000 claiming level over one mile of turf at Gulfstream when she journeyed to Tampa to compete under similar terms April 11.
Trainer Aaron Sayler dropped the claim slip there, watched She’s Copacetic win the race for her former connections, and then brought the filly north to Winnipeg.
Making her local bow under the first allowance condition in an optional $15,000 claimer May 13, She’s Copacetic was prominent throughout en route to a one-length victory at five furlongs.
Returning 2 1/2 weeks later, She’s Copacetic was attempting to land her next condition at six furlongs, but wound up second, beaten a half-length, by the older Mining Town.
Paul Nolan retains the mount on She’s Copacetic, who will break from post 5 in the Chantilly.
My Daddy’s Girl, trained by Greg Tracy, has won 4 of her 8 starts, including the six-furlong Filly Sales Stakes and the 6 1/2-furlong Bird of Pay at Northlands last August.
In two appearances this year, My Daddy’s Girl finished a well-beaten fifth in an open allowance race at Hastings and then returned to Edmonton to romp in a first-level allowance/$32,000 claiming race at 3 1/2 furlongs.
Rico Walcott picks up the mount on My Daddy’s Girl, who will begin from post 2 and may take some catching.
Heavenly Lioness and La Chiquilina also are coming into the Chantilly off sharp victories at 5 1/2 furlongs, with Heavenly Lioness scoring under first-level allowance terms and La Chiquilina capturing a maiden race.
Rounding out the field will be Plus Ultra, Garden Ballad, and newcomer Mega Precious.
Best Bets
AQUINNAH returns to a route and she couldn't have found a much better spot as a horse who wants to be involved early, as the expected pace scenario figures to favor those runners with a little early zip and she appears to be quickest of them all out of the gate; should control the tempo, and that should lead to her running to her best figures. CHARMINGMEGAN has tactical speed and likes to win, a combination that makes her easy to like; should get first run at the top pick.
