Ask Queenie on short rest

Massachusetts-bred star Ask Queenie tries to win the $50,000 Isadorable Stakes for the fourth straight year Saturday at Suffolk Downs.

The richest Mass-bred of all time, she is returning after seven days' rest following a second-place finish in the Rise Jim Stakes against males last week.

Quick turnarounds are nothing new for Ask Queenie, the winner of 22 of her 46 races. She won both the Thomas Moran and First Episode Stakes last summer with two weeks between.

Owned by Laurine Barreira and trained by Barreira's mother, Lori Lockhart, Ask Queenie is looking for her first win this year after finishing in the money in her four starts - two of them as the favorite.

Her main foil the last two years, Flirt for Fame, will look to keep Ask Queenie honest in the nine-horse field. Owned by John D. Murphy, Flirt for Fame scratched out of the Rise Jim last week.

In last year's race, Ask Queenie got the early advantage on Flirt for Fame and drew off to a four-length victory. With Ask Queenie now 7 and Flirt for Fame two years younger, the two appear as evenly matched as at any point in their careers. Weight allowances mean Ask Queenie carries 120 pounds to Flirt for Fame's 117.

Janio Cruz will be back aboard Ask Queenie, while Flirt for Fame gets Jose Lopez, replacing Tammi Piermarini, who is still recovering from whiplash suffered in a spill three weeks ago.

The seven other entrants in the six-furlong sprint include three maidens and several females used to seeing Ask Queenie's backside, including Southoftheborder and Auntie Millie.
