Ashley's Kitten rebounds in Railbird

Racing on conventional dirt or synthetic tracks, Ashley's Kitten is unbeaten. Just do not expect much from her on turf.

Ashley's Kitten won her third race, and first stakes, in Sunday's $111,000 Railbird Stakes at Hollywood Park, a loss that erased the disappointment of a ninth-place finish in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes on turf at Santa Anita last month.

The win in the Grade 3 Railbird was the first graded stakes victory for apprentice jockey Joseph Talamo, who gave Ashley's Kitten a patient ride. Ashley's Kitten was seventh on the backstretch, more than seven lengths behind pacesetter Storm Queen, who set early fractions of 21.61 and 43.98 seconds.

Ashley's Kitten was sixth after a half-mile, and reached second in midstretch. She was fully extended in the final furlong to hold off the 2-1 favorite, Silver Swallow. Ashley's Kitten ($36.60), trained by Ted H. West, ran seven furlongs in 1:22.80. Silver Swallow finished two lengths in front of Sindy With an S in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies.

Owned by Oak West Farm, Ashley's Kitten has won 3 of 4 starts and $119,400.
