From the Ashes in front from start to finish


LINCOLN, Neb. - From the Ashes got the early jump on the field and led throughout to score a $13.80 upset in the $18,760 HBPA Stakes at Lincoln Race Course on Saturday afternoon.

With Luis Ranilla riding, From the Ashes opened up a four-length lead in the opening quarter-mile, then remained clear while making all the pace. Canyon Drive, the 7-5 favorite in a field of eight, rallied through traffic in the final turn, then swung outside the leader to rally but fell three-quarters-of-a-length short in his bid under Jake Olesiak. Tenth Power was another length back in third.

Trained by Chuck Turco, From the Ashes got his third win of the year and first in stakes company. His last start came locally on May 31 when he was a good second to stablemate Reach One More in the Big Red Mile. T From the Ashes has now won 5 of 16 starts and slightly more than $68,000.He covered a mile and 70 yards in 1:44.40 over a fast track
