Arson Squad takes stakes debut

Arson Squad rallied from last in a field of five 3-year-olds in the $91,180 San Pedro Stakes to deny heavily favored Da Stoops his third stakes win of the Santa Anita meeting.

Making his stakes debut, Arson Squad ($7.20) ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.81, finishing 1 3/4 lengths in front of Da Stoops. The Pharaoh finished third, 7 3/4 lengths behind Arson Squad.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Arson Squad was 12 lengths behind pacesetters Popsa Yankee and Within Reason, who dueled through fractions of 21.03 and 44.05 seconds. Da Stoops circled the pacesetters to take the lead at the eighth pole, but could not hold Arson Squad, who had moved into second in early stretch.
