Arrogate shares the top spot in the initial edition of the 2017 World's Best Thoroughbred Rankings with Winx.

Arrogate and Winx share the title of best racehorse in the world, according to the first 2017 edition of the World’s Best Thoroughbred Rankings, compiled by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

The two horses both are rated 127. Arrogate has started once this year, scoring a geared-down victory in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park. The Australian mare Winx has raced twice, winning the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes and the Group 2 Star Apollo Stakes.

Winx is the highest-rated turf horse in the world this year – no surprise since the European flat season has yet to commence – after achieving that distinction in 2016, when her top rating, achieved in the Cox Plate, was 132. Arrogate was rated the best horse in the world for 2016, his Breeders’ Cup Classic win pegged at 134.

Arrogate makes his next start in the Dubai World Cup on March 25. Winx races a week earlier, on March 18, in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes.

The first edition of the rankings covers Jan. 1 through last Sunday. The panel of international racing authorities publishes new rankings monthly for the rest of the year.
