Wednesday’s 2-year-old breeze up portion of the Arqana Deauville summer sale in France brought double-digit increases in both gross receipts and average price compared with the 2012 edition.

The sales company reported 54 juveniles sold for a total of about $1,426,000 (1,096,000 euros), a 23 percent increase compared with last year’s 2-year-old breeze up session. The average price of about $28,150 (21,649 euros) rose 18 percent.

The top 2-year-old of the sale, Burford Belle, sold for 120,000 euros, or about $156,150, to Marc Pimbonnet on behalf of client Jean Romero. Burford Belle, a filly by Sinndar, was consigned by Ecurie Prevost–Baratte. She is out of the stakes-winning and Group 3-placed Rainbow Quest mare Rainbow Dancing and is from the family of Japan Cup winner Jupiter Island and Group 2 winners Danceabout, Precocious, and Pushy.

Two colts sold for 80,000 euros, or about $104,100, to tie for the second-highest price of the day, including a Kentucky-bred colt by WinStar Farm stallion U S Ranger, purchased by Russel MacNabb. Consigned by Ballycullen Stables, the colt is out of stakes winner Dynamous, by Dynaformer, and is from the family of Grade/Group 2 winner Galunpe and stakes winners Expressionist and Chantilly Nayla.

An Oasis Dream colt from the consignment of Mocklershill also sold for 80,000 euros to Laurent Benoit of the Broadhurst Agency.

The two-day sale was to conclude with a horses of racing age section on Thursday.
