Arlington projects Cup sellout

CHICAGO - The early deadline for Breeders' Cup ticket requests passed Sunday, with 6,066 requests received by Arlington, this year's host track.

To determine approximately how many tickets would be issued to early applicants, the track conducted a random sampling of 10 percent of the requests. The sample revealed an average request of four tickets, which projects to 24,264. Arlington and the Breeders' Cup believe the early requests numbers suggest they are well on their way to a sellout.

Arlington will install 35,000 temporary seats beginning in late July, bringing capacity for the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup to 45,000.

The early deadline process now moves to a lottery phase, where requests are selected at random to determine the order in which people can choose their seats. Arlington will notify applicants of the results sometime in mid-July.

Once the lottery phase of ticket sales is finished, tickets will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Ticket prices range from $285 down to $20.
