Arkansas Racing Commission approves pick five for Oaklawn Park

Email

The Arkansas Racing Commission on Thursday took the first step to paving the way for a pick five wager at Oaklawn Park. The agency adopted a rule allowing the track to offer the bet, subject to approval by the state’s legislative rules review committee in December, said commission attorney Byron Freeland. If the rule is cleared, it would go into effect Jan. 1, 2017. Oaklawn opens on Jan. 13.

There were two other rules the commission adopted with the same legislative review condition following a public hearing Thursday. One addresses disqualifications in cases of uncoupled horses sharing either the same owner or same trainer, and the other allows for a change in the trade-off point for claimed horses in order to reduce traffic in the saddling paddock at Oaklawn
