Archer City rolls to victory in Two Altazano

Archer City backed up a nine-length allowance win with a three-length stakes victory Saturday night in the $65,000 Two Altazano division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

The race was one of two restricted stakes for 3-year-olds on the program. Rumpole rolled by 6 1/2 lengths in the $65,000 Jim’s Orbit division of the Texas Stallion Stakes.

Archer City ($3.60) tracked fractions of 22.51 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.54 for the half-mile before going on to cover the six furlongs for fillies in 1:10.47. The track was rated fast.

Deshawn Parker was aboard Archer City, who won over stablemate Kat’s Infatuation. Both horses are trained by Bret Calhoun. Doug Scharbauer owns Archer City, who is a daughter of Silver City.

Rumpole ($10) was always prominent in the Jim’s Orbit for colts and geldings, dueling through an opening quarter in 22.38 seconds and a half-mile in 45.60 before shuttling clear. He covered six furlongs in 1:10.75. Contrarytoordinary was second in the Jim's Orbit.

David Cabrera rode Rumpole for Fletcher Properties and trainer Bob Young. Rumpole is a son of Too Much Bling.
