Arapahoe Park: Golden Springs has kept classy company coming into Molly Brown

Email

Golden Springs spent her spring racing against some tough fillies. She hooked eventual Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty in March, and in her last two starts faced the talented sprinter Grandacious.

The company lines make Golden Springs an interesting prospect for the $40,000 Molly Brown at Arapahoe Park on Sunday. The six-furlong race for fillies and mares is one of two stakes on the card. The $50,000 Lucille Rowe Derby is for Quarter Horses bred in Colorado.

Golden Springs finished a distant fourth to Plum Pretty in the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks. Before that she won the local Sunland Oaks prep, the $50,000 Island Fashion, in February.

Most recently, Golden Springs has been racing at Lone Star Park. Golden Springs was second to Grandacious in an April 23 allowance sprint there, beaten 12 lengths. She then ran fifth to Grandacious in the $75,000 Cinemine on May 30.

The Molly Brown will be the first Arapahoe start for James E. Jones-trained Golden Springs, who will break from post 3 under Kelsi Purcell.
Also set to start in the seven-horse field is Lucky Lo Lo, who won the $40,000 Ingrid Knotts for Colorado-breds on June 5 in what was her first start since the middle of 2009.
