Arapahoe Park: Fast Puff follows up big maiden win by taking the CTBA Lassie

Fast Puff wowed ‘em at Arapahoe when she posted a dominating 8 1/2-length win in her debut June 14. Question was, could she duplicate that run in Saturday’s $48,478 CTBA Lassie Stakes?

The answer was a resounding “yes.”

Owned by David Robertson and Ken Gleason and trained by Gleason, the 2-year-old daughter of Grand Minstrel thoroughly dominated the six-furlong event for Colorado-bred juvenile fillies. As the overwhelming 3-10 favorite she went right to the lead under Luis Rodriguez, was challenged early by Merry Mix up though modest splits, but kicked away into the lane to win as much the best, by 10 1/4 lengths.

Silver Screen Lady stalked the winner and gamely chased her home to finish second, well clear of the others, while Bridlewood Angel ran on for third in the field of 12. Brendas Dancer was eased and vanned off.

Fast Puff paid $2.60 and ran the distance in 1:12.82. The winner’s share of $29,090 gives her earnings of $36,290 as she remains unbeaten and unchallenged in two starts.
