Arapahoe: Justcallheraggie cuts back in distance for Molly Brown

Email

Justcallheraggie cuts back from a mile to one turn while attempting to win her fourth consecutive race in the $40,000 Molly Brown Sunday at Arapahoe Park. The six-furlong stakes for fillies and mares drew a field of 10.

Justcallheraggie’s streak has been built exclusively in one-mile races, starting with a pair of $20,000 claimers on the grass at Turf Paradise in April and May. She then moved to the main track and the allowance ranks for her Arapahoe Park debut June 9, and wired her Colorado rivals at 4-5.

Justcallheraggie, who has won at sprint distances, could be bidding from off the pace Sunday on the turn-back in distance. There are several quick sprinters situated to her inside, and she could get a stalking trip behind such rivals as So Tempted, Joey’s Song, and Missya Jack. Justcallheraggie will break from post 8, and is to be ridden by Don Lee Frazier.

Heading into Friday’s action, Frazier was two victories shy of hitting 2,000 career Thoroughbred wins in North America. Frazier’s first Thoroughbred win came in 1977. He will be riding Justcallheraggie, a 5-year-old Idaho-bred who races for Harry Richardson and is trained by Ty Garrett, for the first time Sunday.

Lady Contender, who was a sprint stakes winner at Arapahoe last year, will be making her second start off a layoff Sunday. In her comeback race, she was a close third in the May 26 allowance prep for the Molly Brown. Kelly Bridges has the mount for co-owner and trainer Stacey Rushton.

So Tempted won the Molly Brown allowance prep in what was her Arapahoe debut. Earlier in her career, she was based in Southern California.
