Arapahoe: Danzip aims to stay perfect with statebreds in Aspen

Email

Danzip has never been beaten against Colorado-breds, and will return to those ranks Saturday for the $30,000 Aspen at Arapahoe Park. He should start as a strong favorite in the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up which also drew local stakes winners Northern Twist, Wally Van, and E F Five.

Danzip went 3 for 4 when last at Arapahoe in 2010, with two of those wins, the Aspen and Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Derby, coming against statebreds. He also won the Inaugural against open company and was second in the Colorado Derby.

Since then, Danzip has raced at Fairplex, Hollywood Park, and Turf Paradise, where in his last start May 5 he won a $20,000 optional claiming sprint by a length. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 88, which is the best last-race number in the Aspen.

Russell Vicchrilli has the mount on Danzip for trainer Doug Grinolds.

◗ Arapahoe on Saturday will launch a free fan education program that begins at 11:15 a.m. in the track’s executive lounge on the second floor. Jonathan Horowitz, the announcer at Arapahoe, will discuss wagering and racing history. The program will last about 45 minutes and features free coffee and doughnuts. The sessions also will be held on July 7 and July 28.
