Araafa favored in Sussex

Araafa goes in search of his third consecutive Group 1 victory at Goodwood on Wednesday when he takes on six foes in the $560,000 Sussex Stakes, the first of four European weight-for-age miles leading to the Breeders' Cup Mile.

The winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St. James's Palace Stakes, Araafa is an Irish-bred son of Mull of Kintyre trained by Jeremy Noseda. As he will find his preferred good to firm ground at Goodwood, he looks like value even at his current Corals price of 5-4. Alan Munro retains the ride.

Court Masterpiece, an unlucky second in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, has an upset chance, as he is a two-time stakes winner at Goodwood.

* Andre Fabre has said that his King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Hurricane Run will take the traditional French route to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the Group 2 Prix Foy at Longchamp on Sept. 10. Meanwhile, Fabre will prepare Shirocco for his Arc run in the Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany on Sept 3. Godolpin Racing's plans for its King George runner-up Electrocutionist start with the 1 1/4-mile Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Sept. 9.
