Aqueduct: Summer Sunset officially DQ’d for Lasix violation

Email

Summer Sunset, the horse that mistakenly was given Lasix prior to winning the second race here Dec. 29, has been disqualified and ruled unplaced in the order of finish by New York State Racing and Wagering Board. Runner-up Money in Motion has been declared the winner of that race.

Any further action is still pending, including a possible fine/or suspension of trainer Karl Grusmark.

Summer Sunset received a shot of Lasix from a New York Racing Association veterinarian the morning of the race, though the horse was not scheduled to get the medication. The betting public was never made aware of the fact the horse received Lasix as the stewards were not notified until after the race had been run.

Summer Sunset won that race by 6 3/4 lengths and returned $11.

Summer Sunset was claimed out of the race by trainer Dominic Galluscio, who has elected to keep the horse.

Summer Sunset is dead. She was killed while racing at Aqueduct on 10/31/14. I wonder how many more "mistakes" were made on this horse. These horses don't deserve this kind of life. Bet on something else people.
