Aqueduct: Sagamoon takes Busanda

Sagamoon remains a bit immature, but she also remains extremely talented. For the third straight time, talent overcame immaturity as Sagamoon took Sunday's $70,850 Busanda Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths over My Kitty at Aqueduct.

After stalking the pace-setting Shelby Memory through six furlongs in 1:13.93, Sagamoon, under Eibar Coa, took over inside the three-sixteenths pole.

Though she drifted out badly inside the sixteenth pole, Sagamoon was well clear at the finish. Sagamoon, a 3-year-old New York-bred daughter of Malibu Moon, covered the 1o1/16 miles in 1:43.27 over a fast inner track and returned $6 as the second choice.

My Kitty rallied from last to get second by a nose over That Girl Is Mine, the 8-5 favorite. It was another three lengths to Bare Dancer in fourth. The second-, third-, and fourth-place finishers were trained by Gary Contessa.

It was the third straight victory after two second-place finishes for Sagamoon, owned and bred by Country Life Farm and trained by Tom Albertrani.

"She's probably better with a target," said Andy Rehm, assistant to Albertrani. "I wish she didn't get the lead as soon as she did, but Eibar stayed after her. She was just a little better than these, and she found herself in front. Tom has always been high on her."
