Aqueduct: Mighty Eros, Bustin Stones impress


As impressive as they were winning their debuts, Bustin Stones and Mighty Eros were even better in their second starts Sunday, as both romped to victory in their respective divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes at Aqueduct.

In the $100,000 Times Square division for 3-year-old colts and geldings, Bustin Stones, ridden bt Ramon Dominguez, quickly recovered from a stumbling start, put away a pace challenge from favored Market Psychology, and drew off to win by 4 1/4 lengths over Smash 'Em Sammy. It was another 1 1/2 lengths back to Market Psychology in third.

Bustin Stones, a son of City Zip owned by Roddy Valente and trained by Bruce Levine, ran seven furlongs in 1:22.33 and returned $6.90 as the second choice. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 91.

In the $100,000 Park Avenue division for 3-year-old fillies, Mighty Eros also used her speed to open up an early advantage and then cruised to a 6 1/2-length victory over 17-1 longshot City in the Clouds. Under Norberto Arroyo Jr., Mighty Eros covered seven furlongs in 1:22.56 and returned $3.70 as the favorite.

Mighty Eros, a daughter of Freud owned by Hedgewick Stable and trained by Tom Bush, earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 88.
