Aqueduct: McLaughin stablemates Falaah, Crossbow eye Tom Fool
Email
Even going winless with three starters at Gulfstream on Sunday, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has won with 9 or his last 18 starters between Aqueduct and Gulfstream. In a span of 24 hours last week, he unleashed three very good-looking sprinters, including Falaah and Crossbow, who both won at Aqueduct, and Emcee, who romped to a victory at Gulfstream.
On Thursday, Falaah won a first-level allowance race by 4 3/4 lengths, running six furlongs in 1:09.70. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 98. On Friday, Crossbow won a second-level allowance race by three lengths, running six furlongs in 1:10.03, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 97. McLaughlin said both horses would be considered for the Grade 2, $200,000 Tom Fool on March 3.
Less than 90 minutes after Crosswbow won, Emcee took a first-level allowance race at Gulfstream by six lengths. He ran seven furlongs in 1:20.83 and earned a 107 Beyer Speed Figure. McLaughlin said he could be considered for the Grade 2, $300,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap on March 10.
Best Bets
ROCKABYEBABY shook loose on the lead before getting nailed on the wire in her April 22 return from a hiatus, from which victorious Blues Music exited to double up going long in NW3 company (61 Beyer). In a field with little other obvious speed, she should take some catching with Kabel back in the saddle. SWIMSWIMSWIM was along for second in her season debut, which was won by a rival who ran second as the heavy favorite in a subsequent $5K NW3 tilt at Fort Erie. MARIANNA, who toppled $16K maidens after coming wide from mid-pack May 9, is a good fit Beyer-wise.
