Aqueduct: Davis, Garcia hope to ride Thursday

Jockeys Alan Garcia and Jackie Davis both took off their mounts Monday at Aqueduct, still feeling sore from the effects of separate spills over the weekend.

Both riders were hopeful to return to the saddle when racing resumes here Thursday.

Garcia, who was aboard Scorper when that horse broke down during the running of Saturday’s fourth race, didn’t ride Sunday either. He was just body sore, according to agent Ron Anderson.

Davis suffered a bruised collarbone as a result of being thrown from her mount, Fundsalo Jones following the finish of Sunday’s ninth race. Fundsalo Jones fell over Raw Moon, who suffered a fatal cardiovascular collapse several yards past the wire. Ryan Curatolo, who was aboard Raw Moon, was uninjured.

Davis was released from North Shore University Hospital about 1:30 a.m. Monday, her father, Robbie, said. All X-rays and a CT-Scan came back negative.

Davis is enjoying a solid Aqueduct inner track meet with 8 wins from 68 starters, tying her with C.C. Lopez for ninth in the rider standings.
