Aqueduct canceled Saturday’s live racing program, the second straight card lost due to a winter nor’easter that brought heavy rain and heavy wind Friday and was expected to bring significant snow before ending Saturday.
Saturday’s $75,000 Dearly Precious Stakes for 3-year-old fillies will be run Sunday, Feb. 17, and will be re-drawn on Thursday and open to original nominees.
Aqueduct and Belmont Park will be open for simuclasting on Saturday.
Live racing was scheduled to resume on Sunday with a nine-race card beginning at 12:30 p.m. and featuring the $75,000 Java Gold Stakes. Following Sunday, racing will be dark at Aqueduct until Friday Feb. 15.
There now have been five cancellations of live racing this winter at Aqueduct as well as six cards canceled due to a horse shortage and equine safety concerns.
Best Bets
HE AIN'T BLUFFING has been idle seven weeks, but has already posted three layover Beyers either as a first-time starter or when fresh, and new trainer Michelle Nevin has done well here lately with Gulfstream shippers off short breaks, including Teaks North in a stake earlier this week; went well on this track in only try. BUGSY LOSTY has been freshened since disappointing effort on Aqueduct's inner track first time in from SoCal circuit; money chances off two prior dirt races. SATURDAY APPEAL ran a big race at 15-1 when blinkers came on last Nov. 29, and then won with them off Feb.
