Aqueduct cancels Friday card due to expected cold temperatures

Email

With bitterly cold temperatures in the forecast, Aqueduct’s Friday card has been canceled, the New York Racing Association announced Thursday.

It is the ninth full card to be canceled and 10th cancellation overall of the winter meet.

According to Weather.com, temperatures Friday are not expected to reach 20 degrees, and with winds blowing in at 20 to 30 miles per hour, wind chill is expected to be in the low single digits.

Racing is expected to resume Saturday with a nine-race card that begins at 12:45 p.m. However, Sunday’s card is jeopardy as temperatures are forecast to be even colder than Friday. Aqueduct also is slated to be open Monday, Presidents Day.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, NYRA said it will “closely monitor weather forecasts and will provide updates should further action be necessary for any of these dates.”

Aqueduct and the Belmont Cafe were to be open for simulcasting Friday.

That was also on a Saturday with 42 degree weather. Not really a fair comparison is it?

It is truly sad the conspiracy theorists that post on this site If it is as they say why not just do something constructive

When they do race you get either wire to wire inside speed or the pressing horse laying second the whole trip running down the speed horse, all usually paying peanuts. In other words; most races are over by the top of the stretch and if you wagered on an outside closer and you are not in at least third place: go get a cup of coffee. Look at Parx racing where you have a chance to make up lots of ground and you get competitive racing and good payoffs.

True enough, but I'd rather have 80% of $10 than 90% of $ 4.20.

Racing at the Big A is a disaster. The purses are outrageous for the quality of racing. I find it amazing that they can get no more than 5 or 6 entries in a race giving away all that money. The jockey colony other than the top 5 are incompetent. Luckily for the many crooked trainers in this circuit, most of the country is looking in other directions to pay attention to their unpoliced shenanigans.

aqueduct is the joke of the racing. looking at the pick six carryover for today only 12,500. a 25,000 carryover was a low number, but 12,500 is a joke. maybe lowering the minimum bet to $1 would help. nyra is destroying aqueduct which is probably their plan.the pools at aqueduct are so small serious bettors don't waste their time handicapping aqueduct anymore because you never have any idea if they will run. it all starts on top with mr toys r us,ruining new york racing

If the pick-6 was a $1 bet, you wouldn't even see that "joke" of a $12,500 carryover.

you are so wrong just look at pools on pick 4 & pick 5 50 cent bet handles 200.000 plus if the pick 6 was $1 it would do $50,000 or more
