Aqueduct cancels entire Sunday card due to high winds

Sunday’s nine-race card at Aqueduct, which featured a pick-6 carryover of $101,393, was canceled due to a forecast of high winds.

According to Martin Panza, the senior director of racing operations for the New York Racing Association, the national weather service called for winds between 40 and 50 miles per hour during racing hours, making it potentially hazardous for jockeys and horses.

The pick-6 carryover will be available on Wednesday, the next scheduled day of live racing at Aqueduct.

Sunday’s two stakes - the $125,000 Thunder Rumble Division of the New York Stallion Stakes and the $100,000 Key Cents for New York-bred juvenile fillies - were to be rescheduled for Friday. The races were to be re-drawn Sunday when the racing office takes entries for both Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day card and Friday’s program.

Panza said that most of Sunday’s other races would be brought back as extras during the coming week.
