Aqueduct adds three days to make up for weather-related cancellations

Email

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – In an effort to make up for several cards that have been lost due to weather, the New York Racing Association has added three days to the racing schedule in March, the company announced Saturday.

There will be live racing at Aqueduct from March 26 to 28 – days that were initially scheduled as dark days. The track, which reverts to a Thursday-to-Sunday schedule beginning Feb. 19, is forbidden from racing March 29 because it is Palm Sunday.

Racing those three days will be conducted on the inner track with the main track opening April 1 as originally scheduled.

NYRA had planned to take a nine-day winter break from March 23 to 31 before losing eight full cards of racing and the final seven races of a ninth card, mostly due to weather. All of those cancellations have occurred since Jan. 7.

Post time for those three cards will be 1:20 p.m.

why would nyra schedule a 9 day winter break at the end of march, wouldn't it make sense for a break in jan or feb when the weather is at its worst. what horrible management at nyra

Even Martin Panza seems lost or is being blocked from making changes

You don't schedule your break in the middle of the winter. You schedule your break in the spring when you're assurred of good weather and use it as makeup days. If you schedule your break "when the weather is at its worst" how would you make up the cards that are missed on other days outside the break period? Unless you believe the harsh weather will conveniently occur on the days that you preschedule as the break. Even schools schedule classes throughout the winter and use spring recess as makeup days. The only mismanagement here is your silly post. I know the en vogue thing seems to be to bash NYRA at every press release. But can you please at least make the appearance of an effort of some intelligent thought before clicking the post button?
