Apprentice wins seven races

Apprentice jockey Justin Stein won with 7 of 9 mounts at Hastings in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Sunday.

Stein's first win came in the second race aboard heavily favored Williwaw. Stein finished third in the next race, then won the remaining six races on the card, four with favorites. The largest price of his seven winners was Bonny Danzer, who paid $14.60 in the fifth race. Stein's other mount finished third.

The record for most wins on a single day at Hastings, eight, belongs to Chris Loseth. The all-time leading rider in British Columbia, Loseth set the record in 1984. Actually, he finished first in seven races that day, but a horse he rode who finished second was later moved up to first when the winner had the purse money taken away because of a positive test.

Stein is the leading rider at Hastings this meet with 138 wins, and with close to 25 percent winners, he has the best winning percentage in Canada.
