Apprentice Fackler wins another stakes

Apprentice Chris Fackler added another stakes win to his resume on Monday when he rallied Mike's Pet to victory in the $20,700 Big Red Mile Stakes. Of the four stakes run at the meet this year, Fackler has won three, including opening weekend's Princess Stakes aboard Deputy's Whirl and the Speed Stakes aboard Doc Tanner.

Fackler missed a day of riding here May 10 when he returned home for his high school graduation at Cairo-Centura High School in central Nebraska. Fackler will miss Thursday through Saturday of this weekend as he sits out a three-day suspension after being disqualified from second to fourth for causing interference in last Friday's ninth race.

Damon Leeds also received a three-day suspension and will sit out Friday through Sunday after his winning mount, Ittakestwobaby, was moved to second behind Paradise Pete in last Saturday's Journal Star Stakes.

Armando Martinez reached the 1,500-win milestone on Monday as he guided Whosallinthere ($13.40) to win the seventh race for trainer Marv Johnson.

Lovesablumin worked out before the races on Sunday in preparation for this weekend's Bluegrass Stakes. With Beth Butler aboard, Lovesablumin breezed three furlongs in 36 seconds about a half-hour prior to the races.
