Appelbaum elected president of National Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association

Joseph Appelbaum was recently elected president of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, and on Friday it was announced he has been elected the head of the affiliate’s national umbrella organization.

The vote to elect Appelbaum as president of the National Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association was unanimous, according to the organization. He succeeds Richard Violette in the position. Violette was also the previous president of NYTHA.

Appelbaum is an owner and breeder who was first elected to the NYTHA board of directors three years ago.

“Joe brings a fresh perspective, and his strong commitment to the THA’s longstanding industry leadership and consensus-building efforts made the decision an easy one for the board,” said Alan Foreman, the longtime chief executive officer of the National THA, in a statement.

In addition, Violette was elected as a director emeritus to the National THA. It is the first time that the organization has named a director emeritus, recognizing Violette’s longtime service to both the New York and National THA.
