Another shot for Shake Em Fever to surprise

Shake Em Fever will try to prove that his trial win at 28-1 was not a fluke when he starts in the $160,800 Texas-Bred Futurity at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night. It is the second of six futurities to be contested during the Sam Houston season, which runs through Nov. 6.

Shake Em Fever was disregarded by bettors when he made his career debut in the first of eight trials April 23, which he won by 1 1/4 lengths in 15.811 seconds for the 300 yards. It was the fastest-qualifying time by the equivalent of about a half-length.

Wompum, who was second to Shake Em Fever in their trials, reached the finals with the third-fastest time of 16.015 seconds.

Six Persimmons raced to her second win from four starts, when she set the second-fastest qualifying time of 15.889 seconds. She could grab the favorite's role because of her experience and because she qualified for the finals of the Grade 2, $198,240 Longhorn Futurity.

Sangiovese and Powerful Injun, the fourth- and fifth-fastest qualifiers, each won their trials in their career debuts. Based on their qualifying times, though, they will need to step forward to challenge in the finals. Sangiovese was timed in 16.035 seconds, and Powerful Injun was timed in 16.051 seconds.
