Another Ascot victorious in Vice Regent

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Another Ascot ($20) held off favored Uncle Max in the final strides to capture the $126,200 Vice Regent Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

Over a course labeled soft, Another Ascot vied with Initforthemoney and Pyramid Park through honest fractions in the one-mile event. Another Ascot established a daylight lead at the eighth pole, as Uncle Max and I'm Spectral were both in the midst of an inside rally.

Another Ascot prevailed by a neck, in a final time of 1:38.09 seconds. I'm Spectral was a length and a half behind Uncle Max in third, and Pyramid Park faded to fourth in the eight-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds.

"He came out of the gate running, and it seemed to me like we were going so easy," said Constant Montpellier, who rode Another Ascot for trainer Mike DePaulo. "I just tried to nurse him along. He ran a game race."

Another Ascot, now unbeaten in two turf starts, banked $75,000 in his first stakes score for California Stable.
