Anne's Beauty holds off Nina Fever by a head in Glorious Song

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Anne’s Beauty wore down Kentucky shipper Nina Fever in the final furlong to take the $150,400 Glorious Song Stakes at 14-1 Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack.

Nina Fever, the 4-5 favorite in the seven-furlong sprint 2-year-old fillies, set wind-aided fractions of 22.59 and 44.91 seconds, while being pressed by a sharp Street Prize.

Anne’s Beauty began to mount a wide rally in unison with Fun Filled at the five-sixteenths pole, and she hooked up with Nina Fever just inside the eighth pole. Anne’s Beauty seemed poised to draw off at that point, but Nina Fever dug in and only lost by a head after surging late. Fun Filled wound up nine lengths behind the winner in third in the six-horse field. Smart Sting was scratched.

Journeyman David Clark got a leg up from trainer Paul Attard on Anne’s Beauty, who covered the distance in 1:22.64.

“She’s very versatile,” said Attard. “Just wait until she goes two turns — she’ll be even better.”

Anne’s Beauty ($30.20) collected $90,000 for owner Robert Smithen.
