Angies Kin solid choice in sprint

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Angies Kin figures to be a solid choice over four other fillies and mares in a $50,000 optional race Saturday at Hastings Park. The 6 1/2-furlong race figures to set up perfectly for the classy Angies Kim, who is just $23 short of going over the $200,000 mark in total earnings.

Angies Kin has been a consistent sprinter throughout her career. She has finished in

the money in 17 of 24 starts at 6 1/2 furlongs, including six wins. Although her only stakes win came in the 1997 Sadie Diamond Futurity, she has earned black type many times and she hits very hard at this level.

A British Columbia-bred daughter of Free at Last, Angies Kin started off this season with a win over $50,000 optional horses April 28. After a disappointing seventh to Make Contact in the Strawberry Morn Stakes on

May 12, she finished a close third to Grooms Derby in an allowance race May 26. Angies Kin has excellent tactical speed, and David Wilson figures to have her sitting just off a pace that will likely be contested by Victory Serenade and Bell's Beach.

Bell's Beach will be looking for her first win since she beat Angies Kin by four lengths in a $50,000 optional race at 6 1/2 furlongs last September. A 5-year-old Washington bred mare, Bell's Beach has raced only 13 times but has four wins. She has started twice at the current meet, finishing last to Make Contact in an allowance race April 21 and fourth in a $50,000 optional race May 13. She can be a very tough mare if things go her way, and with a pace that should suit her style, she could be ready for one of her better races.
