#7 Indigenous Star showed talent last season, but he still looked a work in progress. He is near a drop in grade, but if he puts it all together, he’s capable of winning here. #1 Mordicus has disappointed in most of his eight starts to date. He should have a Class 4 win in him, but he is unreliable. #2 None Other’s three Hong Kong wins all came off higher marks and he showed at the end of last season another victory is near. #10 Rewarding Flyer will be somewhere around the mark.

#5 Beekely performed nicely off a freshen-up in two runs in June and July. If he has taken another step forward, he should be going close under man of the moment Matthew Poon. #7 Peace Combination was simply no match for Top Beautiful in the season’s opening race, but there looks nothing of that calibre here. #4 Fish N' Chips is an uncomplicated type who is down to a mark where he should be competitive. He gets the seven-pound claim of Dylan Mo too. #1 Look Eras will press forward and can hang around for a minor placing.

#4 Rhode Assassin has one of the better dirt pedigrees in Hong Kong and his last two course and distance runs have suggested he will win shortly. This looks a good race for him. #7 Diamond Friends has his first run for Frankie Lor after dropping considerably through the ratings last season. He looks well-handicapped now with Joao Moreira jumping back aboard. #10 Dragon Bachelor is likely to push forward and should be able to stick around for some minor money. #5 Amritsaria should need further but there is enough evidence to suggest he’s worth including at his dirt debut.

#4 Foxbat steps out for Frankie Lor for the first time. He hasn’t shown much yet, but he trialled well in August and deserves respect for in-form rider Karis Teetan. #3 Good Method had no clear run at a crucial stage last week and still managed to run second to Telecom Boom. With that run under his belt, he can atone. #2 Ambitious Speedy is first-up since April. He won over the Sha Tin 1400m in March and still appears able to win off his current mark. #12 Laughing Lord needs things to fall his way but he’s a chance.

#5 Gran Master produced a number of nice efforts on the dirt last season and with a summer under him, he looks one to follow here. #7 Good Fit doesn’t win out of turn but was a two-time course and distance winner last preparation. He is now with Frankie Lor and he bears close watching. #9 Five Stars Agent provided Joao Moreira with his first defeat of the season two weeks back. He is better suited in this race. #1 Play It wasn’t beaten far in his first Class 4 attempt at Happy Valley. He can figure again.

#11 Autopay found his feet at his last three runs of the season, but he couldn’t quite break through. Dylan Mo’s claim takes him down to 111 pounds and that looks a winnable weight against this company. #1 Experto Crede is racing well currently. He might need some weight relief but he’s a chance again. #6 Diamond Mysterious was crowded at the start first-up and got too far out of his ground, but should be able to settle closer here. #10 Royale Elegance is another Frankie Lor stable transfer who must be included in exotics.

#3 Adventurer has abundant speed and should be among the pacesetters early. He may be on his mark but with his racing style, he can never be dismissed, particularly over this course and distance. #2 My Little Friend has breathing issues that have prevented him from consistently running to his best. On his day, though, he’s more than capable against this group. #13 Premiere found Class 2 a bridge too far in his debut season. He has drawn well here, though, and cannot be dismissed with a summer under his belt. #7 Momentum Lucky can fill a placing.

#11 Travel Emperor was green as grass first-up and disappointed. However, the race shape was against him and with a truer pace here, he can run to the level of his debut. #1 Turf Sprint won fresh at 50/1 last season. He is back in Class 3 and looks a contender in an open race. #4 Fantastic Eight proved an honest frontrunner last season. If he gets it easy on the lead, he will be tough to run down. #6 Who Dat Singa looked a Derby contender at one stage but ultimately proved disappointing. He’s a chance at his best.

#11 Top Beautiful couldn’t have been much more impressive in the opening race of the season. He now faces Class 3 company, albeit with a light weight, and while he has drawn awkwardly, he still looms as the one to beat. #6 Ace King rarely runs a bad race over this course and distance and must be included underneath. #10 Sunshine Universe ran OK last season and must be included with a featherweight on his back. #7 Money Boy looked home first-up before Hair Trigger emerged from nowhere. He can turn the tables here and get into the money.

#14 Such A Happiness finally put it together to win late last season. He might need further than 1400m now, but with only 116 pounds to carry, he can make it two on the trot. #6 Winston's Lad has not won since December 2015, but he has been honest to finish around the mark recently. Another win is approaching. #3 Green Card is quirky and needs everything to fall right, but he should be improved for his fresh run and he is a chance. #10 General Dino will need further but he could add value to the exotics.
