Andrea's Pic tries turf at Colonial

Andrea's Pic has demonstrated talent on the main track, either wet or fast.

The 4-year-old gets her first taste of the turf Saturday in the $60,000 Buckland Stakes for fillies and mares at Colonial Downs. The 5 1/2-furlong dash attracted a field of eight, and every runner with the exception of Andrea's Pic has hit the board at least once in a grass race.

While she lacks turf experience, the edge for Andrea's Pic is consistency. She is 3-3-0 in 7 starts.

"We want to see what she can do on the grass," trainer Rodney Jenkins said. "She is eligible to some Virginia-bred races and they are all on the turf."

Andrea's Pic has not run since a neck loss at Laurel in early December, after which Jenkins gave her an extended vacation.

"Nothing bad happened," he said. "She had been in training for two years and we wanted to give her a break."

Andrea's Pic has been working steadily for the comeback, and Jenkins expects good things in the filly's turf debut.

"They don't give you much chance to practice on the grass in Maryland," said Jenkins, who is based at Laurel. "She's very quick and a good shipper. We'll see how she handles it."

Bindloe is another filly making her season debut who should also be sharp. Trained by Tim Tullock Jr., she posted bullets in her last two workouts.

Bindloe is 1 for 2 on the turf at Colonial, having captured a second-level allowance race last summer.

Completing the field are Royal Regan, Zooming By, Privately Approved, Lindas Roar, Tiger Fever, and Chinchilla.
