American Post continues title bid at Doncaster

Email

American Post continues his late bid for the European juvenile championship at Doncaster on Saturday in the $420,000 Racing Post Trophy.

A Criquette Head-Maarek-trained son of Bering, American Post was supplemented for $29,000 to the one-mile Group 1 event after his four-length triumph in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (formerly the Grand Criterium) at Longchamp on Arc Day. American Post will be ridden for the first time by Christophe Soumillon.

Fantastic View, winner of the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Ascot, and maiden winner Cape Fear are also supplementary entries, but American Post may have more to fear from a pair of Aidan O'Brien-trained colts by Sadler's Wells. Magritte, a full brother to this year's Epsom Derby runner-up, The Great Gatsby, was the five-length winner of a 7 1/2-furlong Tipperary maiden race in his lone start on July 20, while Mikado took a one-mile maiden at Listowel in his second and last outing Sept. 18.
