hard surface at santa anita causes these sorts of injuries.lots of horses with hoof problems and deep soreness. another defection that might work out for the horse in the long run.

This is now my 3rd single that has scratched.Wise Dan, Beholder, and now Pharoah! I'm holding my breath and hope I don't lose anymore. It's a tough game, and the horses are so fragile. Just hope they all come back, especially that wonderful gelding, Wise Dan. I can see the other two going right to the breeding shed.

So you think AP is not even going to try the triple crown trail and be retired at 2? Mmmmm k. Well news breaker maybe you missed the part were Beholder was pulled from her sale and her connections said they will race her in 2015. Keep up the good work Mark!

Where have you guys been? I broke this story last night!

He's a chicken. The main reason why he scratched was not because of a foot problem because x ray and ultra sound were negative but it was because the track will not let baffert use epo for this race and baffert knows the horse is junk so he just scratched him.

Tommy, I had no idea! Your knowledge is valuable and could help racing. Plus you could make a bunch of money being an advisor to wealthy owners with your insider knowledge! Give it a shot.

What is epo?

No more badmouthing!!!!! don't you think for a second, they would have tried everything they could to get this, or any horse, to run in the race of a lifetime. Baffert is one of the best horse trainers and managers on mother earth. As for the colts and fillies not running after 4, you think they might be more valuable in the breeding shed.

I agree Pharoah should not run,but as for your endorsement for your hero,I can't stand him. Mott,Shug,Motion have a moral compass,Baffert not so much.

Hopefully, they would have the same regard for a 10k claimer--only because he's so "valuable", we decided to scratch him!! That stinks!

So now Baffert has to tell Zayat about the horses condition since Asmussen got caught lying...otherwise they would have patched him up and ran him if in Steven's hands...and he woulda won. hahaha...speculation of course.

And let me clarify American Pharoah already had 3 starts ,won the last one like a super star,he is a 2yr old ,for crying out loud ,this would be his 4start ,maybe one more than i would have like, why work him at all? This was a 2 million dollar purse and eclipss award on the line, all those races and works are meaningless if you dont race in this one, imagine the outcry if tom brady in the AFC championship game throws for 500 yards and 5 touchdown, but hurt himself in the process and dont play in the Super Bowl,we would be all pver coach Belicheck, just saying .

Just my personal opinon and trust me far from an expert, but i believe his last work was so fast ,it was like a race ,in ptner words rather than go 47 and change for a work, thats a race ,he is a baby ,i rather have 5 races and 2 works ,rather than 2 races and 5 wprks, still i am on his bandwagon derby 2015

The time of a workout is almost irrelevant. It's all about how the horse did it. If you watch Pharaoh's last two works he did them very easily, without urging. This is just bad timing for a bruise. (as of now they're calling it a bruise) What an efficient mover tho. I'm with you on that bandwagon for next year!
