American Pharoah has new brother out of Littleprincessemma

A full brother to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah was born early Thursday at Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown, Ky.

Summer Wind’s Karen Bailey reported that the bay Pioneerof the Nile colt arrived at about 1:40 a.m., and that both he and dam Littleprincessemma, an 11-year-old daughter of Yankee Gentleman, were in good health.

Ahmed Zayat purchased Littleprincessemma for $250,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale and named her for his youngest daughter. Winless during her racing career, Littleprincessemma has now produced three winners from as many starters, led by 2015 Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year American Pharoah. The champion now stands at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., and his first foals are now arriving.

Littleprincessemma produced a full sister to American Pharoah in the spring of 2014; that filly, American Cleopatra, is Grade 1-placed for Zayat Stables. The owner bred Littleprincessemma back to Pioneerof the Nile, but elected to sell the mare at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale. At that time, American Pharoah was a two-time Grade 1-winning juvenile and would earn a divisional Eclipse Award for that campaign. Summer Wind signed the ticket at $2.1 million, and the mare subsequently produced Irish Pharaoh. That colt was sold to undisclosed interests as a yearling. Littleprincessemma produced a filly by leading sire Tapit, named Chasing Yesterday, last year before she was bred back to Pioneerof the Nile for Thursday’s arrival.
