Multiple Grade 3 winner American Lion was represented by his first foal on Jan. 31 when a filly born at Red Riding Hood Stables in Holly, Mich. The filly is out of the stakes-placed Klinsman mare Klinsman's Luck, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Regal Pusher and Born to the Bad.
American Lion, a 6-year-old son of Tiznow, won the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue Stakes as a juvenile. He followed up by finishing third in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes and winning the Grade 3 Illinois Derby the following spring, earning his way into the 2010 Kentucky Derby, where he finished 11th.
He concluded his career with three wins from nine starts and earnings of $417,800.
American Lion was produced by the winning Storm Cat mare Storm Tide, who is out of Grade 1 winner City Band. It is the family of juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby.
American Lion entered stud in 2012 at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky., for a fee of $5,000. He will stand for the same fee this year.
