America America takes Lone Star Oaks


America America held off favorite Topango by a neck to win the $100,000 Lone Star Oaks before an estimated crowd of 24,000 on Sunday night at Lone Star Park. It was another length and three quarters back in third to Dancing Meg.

America America, who is in foal to El Prado, assumed a stalking position soon after the start of the mile and a sixteenth turf race, took the lead in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance over firm turf in 1:43.96.

Roman Chapa rode the winner, who paid $13.60.

America America is owned and trained by Franck Mourier. She earned $60,000 for the win, which was her fourth from 26 starts. Her earnings now stand at $393,050.

America America has raced at 19 different tracks between North America and Europe. Her biggest career win came last December when she defeated male rivals in the $150,000 Sam Houston Texan Juvenile at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston. America America was bred in Kentucky and is a daughter of Mister Baileys.

There was a fireworks display at Lone Star following the races on Sunday.
