Amazing Buy lives up to expectations

Amazing Buy lived up to the lofty expectations of her owner and the betting public, cruising to a relatively easy 2 1/2-length victory in the $80,550 for 3-year-old fillies.

Pelham Bay held off Pretty Partisan by a nose for second.

Though she was only coming off a maiden win going six furlongs, Amazing Buy was sent off as the 2-5 favorite, returning $2.90 for the victory. Her owner, Ernie Paragallo, who purchased Amazing Buy for $350,000, had stated before the race that she had the potential to be one of the best horses he ever owned.

Under Norberto Arroyo Jr., Amazing Buy stalked the speed of Dancin on Broadway, took control straightening away for home, and waltzed to victory. Amazing Buy, a daughter of High Yield, covered the mile and 70 yards in 1:44.59. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 81. Amazing Buy is now 2 for 3 in her career.

"She did exactly what she was supposed to do," said trainer Jennifer Pedersen, who claims Amazing Buy still isn't 100 percent fit. "I felt confident that she would rate today. I really liked what Norberto did. He educated her, and she got the win at the same time."

Pedersen said there were no definite plans for Amazing Buy. If she stays in New York, the next logical spot would be the $75,000 Busher Stakes on Feb. 27.
