Alywyn going for five in a row

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Alywyn will try to make it five wins in a row when she makes her seasonal debut in the featured race at Northlands Park on Friday. The $30,000 claiming race at six furlongs drew six fillies and mares and goes as the seventh race.

Alywyn, trained by Jim Meyaard, started her win streak on Aug. 26 in a $25,000 claiming race going 6 1/2 furlongs. Despite the ease of her seven-length win, Meyaard dropped her into a $17,500 claiming race on Sept. 6, where she had a harder time but still was able to hold off Calmcoolincollected by more than two lengths. She closed the season with wins in $25,000 claiming races on Sept. 16 and Oct. 7. In her last start, Alywyn won by a widening nine lengths as the odds-on favorite.

Rico Walcott retains the mount.

Viva Slew and Hardcore Candy look like the main threats to end the stereak.

Trained by Greg Tracy, Viva Slew is coming off of a fifth-place finish in a $20,000 optional claimer at Turf Paradise, where she had a rough trip. She won two races at Northlands last year and with her good speed she could be dangerous leaving from the rail.

Hardcore Candy has been training sharply for trainer Rod Cone and she was ready to go coming off of the bench in 2009, winning a $50,000 optional claimer at Hastings.
